My Philosophy

M-A-T-H!

Math is an interesting subject.  You either hear, "oh!  I love math!"  or  "I hate Math!  I just don't get it!"  I am one of those people that just LOVES MATH and it comes easy for me.  But I have found that by making math fun and with a little bit of practice, you can learn to at least like it!

I wanted to become a Math teacher to turn my students onto this concept of math being fun!  I really try to explore and teach things in ways that will be most useful to students.  Let's face it! For the majority of people, math is difficult, but anything worth learning always started out hard.  It's by practice, practice and a little more practice that we can become better and then actually want to learn more!

A little bit of Experience followed by some RULES !

I  taught High School math for 5 years in Reno, Nevada from 2006 - 2011.  I taught Pre-Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2 (or second year Algebra).  I also tutored on the side and I loved the one-on-one interaction with my students.  But I have found that in order for tutoring to be the most useful we must follow a few rules:

1.  Always talk to your teacher and visit his/her office hours or before/after school help sessions.  Your teacher is your greatest ally.  Don't be afraid to ask questions and get extra help.

2.  I am not here to do your homework!  (Bummer...I know)  I am here to supplement what you already know and help you LEARN what you need to learn to be successful.

3.  Come with questions!  Do your homework ahead of time or at least try a few of the problems that way you can come with specific questions in mind.  I allow 20 - 30 minutes to go over homework questions and the rest of the time we will work on improving your MATH SKILLZ!

4.  You can make mistakes!  This is the best way to learn!  Do your best, keep a positive attitude and we will work from there!
